Republicans are more enthusiastic about voting than Democrats, Romney ties Obama

Republicans are more enthusiastic about voting for the next president than the Democrats are.

This could give the Republican candidate the boost he will need, if the right guy wins the nomination.

As it stands today, according to the latest Gallup poll, that guy is Mitt Romney

When asked who they would vote for today, if Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, or Paul were the Republican Party’s candidate…

National registered voters chose Mitt Romney.

Each Republican candidate compared to Obama

  • Obama 48 % Romney 48%
  • Obama 49% Paul 46%
  • Obama 51% Santorum 43%
  • Obama 53% Gingrich 41%

The blue line on this chart shows Obama’s support as compared to the Republican candidates…
… Who do you think has the best chance of winning?

Gingrich would he happier if we didn’t see evidence of his past record.

I imagine Newt Gingrich would he happier if we didn’t see evidence that his past is a little different from his stories. And you can’t really blame him.

After all we are asked to compare his background to that of Romney and Santorum.

Newt regularly brings up the charge that Romney is a successful businessman and that he didn’t pay any more tax than he legally had to. As if the rest of us want to pay more tax than we have to.
It may be that the our tax system is off-balance and needs to be changed, but that doesn’t make Romney wrong.

Newt has tried to use other negative ads in his campaign, but they turned out to be mostly if not completely false.

  • A pro-Newt Gingrich super PAC, claims that Romney “thinks judges can overrule parents on abortions.” NOT TRUE
  • At the time, in 2002, Romney was actually arguing against giving 16- and 17-year-old girls a legal right to abortion without consent of either parent.

  • Gingrich’s most savage attack so far, Winning Our Future began airing an ad the afternoon of Jan. 27 going after Romney for his association with a company that committed Medicare fraud while he was a director in the 1990s.
  • The ad strains to imply falsely that Romney was guilty of criminal conduct. At one point the words “illegal activity” appear superimposed over Romney’s face. But the truth is that Mitt was never implicated in any illegal activity.

  • Newt’s ad goes after Romney for raising “fees and taxes” in Massachusetts.
The ad says Romney “refused to support” the Bush tax cuts when he was governor, and that’s true.
  • Romney pointedly refused to endorse the Bush tax cuts in 2003, although he never publicly opposed them, either.

  • It goes on and on, you can read a report at Factcheck.org

His latest negative ad accuses Romney of being dishonest, is it no wonder that Gingrich would like to be the one that tells his story, the way he wants us to hear it.

As for Romney he has run some negative ads and some of them are questionable. This latest ad features then-NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw reporting in 1997 on ethics charges against Newt Gingrich. It seems right on to me.

    Watch the Video

NBC News today is requesting that the Romney campaign remove NBC material from an ad that went up yesterday in Florida attacking Newt Gingrich for 1990s-era House ethics charges.

The ad prominently features then-NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw reporting in 1997 on the ethics charges at the top of the Nightly News broadcast that evening, Politico reported this morning.

“The NBC Legal Department has written a letter to the campaign asking for the removal of all NBC News material from their campaign ads,” said Lauren Kapp, NBC senior vice president for marketing and communications, in a statement. Kapp added, “Similar requests have gone out to other campaigns that have inappropriately used Nightly News, Meet the Press, Today and MSNBC material.”

Brokaw also released a statement voicing his personal concerns.

“I am extremely uncomfortable with the extended use of my personal image in this political ad,” he said. “I do not want my role as a journalist compromised for political gain by any campaign.”
    MSNBC

Newt Gingrich is good at saying the things that we want to hear.

  • Though a base on the moon may not be very high on the list of things most of us want to see.
  • One thing that he wants to keep quiet is his record, I don’t blame him. But to accuse Romney of being the only one running negative ads says a lot about Newt. What do you think?

Ronald Reagan “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”

Are you better off today than you were four years ago? Ronald Reagan asked this question Oct 2, 2008, it’s time to ask it again?

    Watch the video.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the pretax median household income in 2010 was $49,445, a 2.3 percent decline from 2009.

According to the Tax Policy Center, 244 current members of Congress were millionaires in 2009, the most recent year for which data is available.

Barak Obama the 44th president of America has an estimated net worth up to $11 million.

Newt Gingrich’s latest financial disclosures show total wealth of at least $6.7 million as of July 2011.

I’ll remind you that the average American household income is $49,445.00 a year, with a
median net worth of $96,000 in 2009 down from $125,000 in 2007.

And families took on more debt, pushing median total debt levels to $75,600 from $70,300. They also made less money. money.cnn.com

Obama’s net worth is 114 times the average American and 222 times our median household income. And he’s almost twice as rich as Gingrich, if we can believe Gingrich…

His latest financial disclosures show total wealth of at least $6.7 million as of July 2011.
Since he left Congress in 1999, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has built a network of businesses and nonprofit ventures that have brought in more than $100 million from clients and donors.

The Gingrich brand includes a consulting firm, a book and video company, and a political fundraising operation that is now fueling his campaign for President. Businessweek.com

Even though Mitt Romney has accumulated more wealth than Barack and Newt, do you think they are more in touch with the average American?…

Do you think Romney would be a better president if he only had 122 times more money than you do?

Keep in mind that more than half the members of congress are millionaires, too.

Is Barack Obama better off than he was four years ago? You bet.
His wealth has increased by $4million since 2008.

    October 27, 1964 — Ronald Reagan
“If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what’s at stake. We are faced with the most evil enemy mankind has known in his long climb from the swamp to the stars. There can be no security anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic stability within the United States. Those who ask us to trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state are architects of a policy of accommodation.”

    Are you better off today?

Romney’s tax returns, Don’t you pay as little tax as you can?

Do you really care about Romney’s tax returns?

Don’t you try to pay as little tax as you can?

Why would anybody pay more income tax than they have to? Don’t you think Uncle Sam is getting enough of the income you work for?

That may be how Romney feels. I prefer to have a president that understands that we don’t want to pay higher taxes.

I also want a president that knows how to make money and how to save money.

Romney said late on Thursday: “I’m not going to apologize for being successful.”

Maybe he hasn’t saved all the jobs at all the companies Bain Capital has ever owned. He has however created far more jobs than he might have caused to be lost.

Do you think that all the companies Obama and Gingrich invested in always saved every employees job?

I hate to even bring this up but how long was it before Obama produced proof that he is an American citizen when he was running for President the first time in 2008?

He released his birth certificate in June 2008; His presidential campaign began in February 2007. So it took him more than year to produce a document far more important that Romney’s tax returns.

Barack Obama didn’t release his tax returns until March 2008, also a year after beginning his campaign for president.

I’m not suggesting that Obama is not an American Citizen or that he cheated on his taxes; just that it took him a long time to prove it. And like Romney, he had nothing to hide, so why take so long, and why criticize Romney for doing the same thing?

The same can be said for Gingrich. Not about his tax filings but more about his history. He keeps attacking Romney on his history as an investor at Bain Capital, indicating that Romney’s can’t be trusted to do what’s right.

We are however, according to Gingrich supposed to believe in, and trust him to do the right thing. He says we shouldn’t bring up his past, particularly his problems with infidelity, and the story he tells about his being responsible for four years of a balanced budget. At a time when he was not even in office.

Newt Gingrich, said “I helped balance the federal budget for four straight years, the only time in your lifetime we had four years of a balanced budget. We paid over $400 billion in federal debt off.” NOT TRUE

Gingrich was off on both claims concerning the budget. The budget was indeed balanced for four years, but it’s a stretch for him to take credit for more than two of those years. As for paying off $405 billion in debt, the data we found shows the debt actually increased during Gingrich’s four-year tenure as speaker by more than $800 billion. We rate Gingrich’s claim False. Politifact.com

The problem is that Gingrich left office in January 1999. That means he was in office for only 2 of the four years.

So, back to the original question about Romney’s taxes. If you are planning to vote for him now
and you find out he paid the same tax rate that you did, are you going to vote for Obama or Gingrich instead?

    If so why,
will the fact that they missed a chance to save on their taxes make them a better president?

Of course none of these three guys can identify with the life most of us lead. They don’t live the same life style most of us do. Why should we believe that any of them know or understand what we face during our day-to-day lives, just trying to keep up?

We do want them to understand the economy of our country and what it takes to get it going and keep it going. We face a lot of problems as a country, but more than 50% of us agree that our economy is the problem we are most concerned about at this time. PollingReport.com

Doe’s your vote really depend on Romney’s tax rate?

Gingrich Compares Virginia Ballot Fiasco to Pearl Harbor – Fox News

This short video about Newt Gingrich, his failure to qualify for Virginia’s primary and Bryan’s interview is not factual, it’s something I put together from some of Mr. Gingrich’s previous interviews and quotes…

: Newt Gingrich on the Bryan Show by Msvoterblog

    .

He does however mention his books, Callista’s books, and his claim to balancing the federal budget in most of his interviews.

You can read an account of how Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stepped into controversy Christmas weekend as he compared his exclusion from the Virginia primary ballot to the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

Here via… Gingrich Compares Virginia Ballot Fiasco to Pearl Harbor – Fox News.

Did Newt Gingrich single handedly balance the Federal Budget?

Our federal budget was balanced from fiscal year 1998 to 2001.

Newt Gingrich, said “I helped balance the federal budget for four straight years, the only time in your lifetime we had four years of a balanced budget. We paid over $400 billion in federal debt off.”

Politifact.com

The problem is that Gingrich left office in January 1999. That means he was in office for only 2 of the four years.

Gingrich may have had a hand in balancing the budget it’s hard to tell…

Of course the Democrats give the credit to Clinton and the growing US economy. And there is some truth to that.

It may be true that he helped, but I don’t believe for a minute that Newt can take full credit for balancing the country’s budget for four years while being in office for only two of the four years he claims.

In November 1998 Gingrich announced that he would not run for office in 1999. He left office in 1999 and it was not until the end of 1999 that the house approved the budget for 2000.

The Deficit Reduction Act of 1993 passed by congress in 1993 to reduce the deficit by $500 billion from 1994 to 1998 exceeded all expectations in reducing the deficit.

An equally if not a more important influence on the budget deficit, was the booming economy and huge gains in the stock markets…

The so-called dot-com bubble brought in hundreds of millions in unanticipated tax revenue from rising salaries and taxes on capital gains.

According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the 1990s was the longest economic expansion in the history of the United States, lasting exactly ten years from March 1991 to March 2001…

Did Newt Gingrich really have that much of an effect on an economy that was already in the longest expansion in our history when he came into office?

This question is important only because Newt Gingrich is making a run at being our next president. If his claims are more than political rhetoric, then they are significant and a good reason to give him consideration.

If however, he is stretching the truth and blatantly misleading us to gain favor, then we need to be very careful about anything he tells us. It is possible that he will mislead us, and that’s something we’ve had enough of.

What do you think about it?

Gingrich fails to qualify for Va. Super Tuesday presidential primary

    GoAnimate.com: Newt+on+Virginia by Msvoterblog

Mr. Gingrich is up to his usual tactics. His failure to qualify for Virginia’s Super Tuesday presidential primary is apparently the fault of someone else.

He announced Saturday that he will ask his supporters to write in his name instead of qualifying for the primary like everybody else.

It remains unclear how Mr Gingrich – a former House of Representatives speaker – intends to do this as the Virginia Primary does not allow write-ins in primary ballots.

Gingrich said Virginia’s electoral system is flawed, after failing to qualify for the primary ballot in his home state.

Virginia party officials say he did not submit the required 10,000 signatures to appear on the 6 March ballot.

Carl Tobias, a University of Richmond law professor, said Virginia Code section 24.2-529 prohibits write-in ballots in primaries.

Gingrich’s campaign has blamed Virginia’s primary rules for his failure to qualify. But Tobias, in an emailed comment, said Gingrich “looks foolish and disorganized” for not qualifying and also for complaining about Republican party rules that “are meant to insure broad-based support, especially in rural districts.”

Gingrich critics say the setback shows a serious lack of organization.

The Virginia Republican Party also said Texas Governor Rick Perry’s petitions had failed to qualify him for the ballot.

Only Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts Governor and Ron Paul, a Texas Congressman, managed to qualify.

This is just the sort of thing that makes me worry about “President Gingrich”. Is he ready to be president?

I mean this is a very important part of his campaign and he left it to someone else.

Looking at his record this seems to be the way he operates. Someone drops the ball and he wants to blame everybody else…

I know that’s what we have gotten used to, but it’s not working…

The blame game only goes so far, then he will have to cut bait or fish…

We need a president that can deliver not a bait cutter.

Is Newt Gingrich the right man for the job? Vote Smart

Newt Gingrich says all the right things. Visit VoteEasy and see how he ranks on the issues important to you…

Every time I listen to him or read about his plans to repair our economy and restore value to our country I want to vote for him. Is he the right person for the job? I’m not so sure.

Can and will he do what he promises? He doesn’t have a good track record in some of the areas that will prove to be important…

Who ever is elected to be our next president will have to be tough, confident in his ability, committed, and determined to see it through. He or she will have to be strong enough to avoid temptation. Is he that person? He’s definitely confident in his opinion and has a larger than life ego. The problem as I see it, is his problem with commitment and self-control.

Of course none of us knows for sure what Newt or anyone else will or will not do in the future. We have to listen closely to what he says today, tomorrow, last week, and in the last three decades…

Newt Was a Lobbyist for Pharmaceutical Companies, though he denies it. Read an article here.

    Ethics sanctions

Eighty-four ethics charges were filed against Speaker Gingrich during his term. After extensive investigation and negotiation by the House Ethics Committee, Gingrich was sanctioned US$300,000 by a 395-28 House vote. It was the first time in history a speaker was disciplined for ethical wrongdoing.

Newt Gingrich made between $1.6 million and $1.8 million in consulting fees from two contracts with mortgage company Freddie Mac, according to two people familiar with the arrangement. Was he lobbying?
It also is worth noting that during the 2008 campaign, Gingrich said that then-candidate Barack Obama should return campaign contributions from the executives of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Apparently, enriching your personal bank account is a different matter.

A think tank founded by GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich collected at least $37 million over the past eight years from major health-care companies and industry groups, offering special access to the former House speaker and other perks, according to records and interviews.

The Center for Health Transformation, which opened in 2003, brought in dues of as much as $200,000 per year from insurers and other health-care firms, offering some of them “access to Newt Gingrich” and “direct Newt interaction,” according to promotional materials. The biggest funders, including firms such as AstraZeneca, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Novo Nordisk, were also eligible to receive discounts on “products and workshops” from other Gingrich groups.

Newt probably is a good man and has every intention of doing the best he can for our country. I don’t think that’s enough. I don’t think his intentions are enough.

My worry is that when the going gets tough, Newt may get going; in the other direction.

This is not just a comment on his infidelity, but also his record as a politician and as speaker of the house…

Add to that the fact, that if Newt, is elected the first lady will be a lady that carried on a six-year affair with a married man. Of course she isn’t the first lady to do that but she may me the first, first lady to have that distinction…

I don’t really care what she did privately, I do care about the values she may bring into the White House. The morals of our country are already under attack, and losing ground.

Herman Cain lost whatever chance he may have had at being elected, primarily because we saw him as a person with questionable morals…

    How is Newt any different?
